Interesting.

For a long time have heard and read about the Indomesian Tamil/Indain Community at Medan.

They mosy have a similar parallel history related to the Malaysian Tamil/Indian community who number about 2 million now.

Both community, especially the Indonesian Tamil community, may not be fluent in Tamil. However, they could communicate in Malay (Bahasa Indonesia or Bahasa Malaysia.

The on going co evolution of both communities among Malay speaking world would be a great acemeic exercise.

Dear Grace...very interesting observation. From the history I knew, the Tamils are in Medan since 1930.
I live in an Riau archipelago island called Tanjung Balai Karimun, which is 45 minutes by Ferry from Singapore. Yet the local Indonesians in Karimun are unaware that there is a Tamil race. And there is not even one Hindu in this island, unlike Bali, Batam and Jakarta and no Hindu temples here.
